NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – Battling choppy waters and a head wind for much of its race, the Chapman University women's crew team finished in fifth place in the Varsity 8 competition on Saturday in the Berg Cup at Newport Beach's Lido Channel.
The Panthers finished the six-team race with time of 8:06.6 in the 2000-meter row, but were nearly a minute off the pace set by Orange Coast College who finished in first with a time of 7:12.6. The Panthers did finish ahead of Long Beach State's team who came in last with a time of 8:20.9.
Chapman also competed in the Freshman/Novice 8, finishing fourth in the five-team race with a time of 8:26.3 as conditions were much calmer than the varsity race. The University of San Diego won the Freshman/Novice 8 with a time of 7:47.8.
