Jennifer Lieu joined the Chapman coaching staff in 2009 with primary responsibilities on player development and she also serves as a part-time instructor in physical activity classes at Chapman. In 2013-14, she helped the Panthers capture their first-ever SCIAC regular season championship and has helped guide the team into the SCIAC Tournament in all seven years in the conference.
With Lieu on staff, Chapman was honored as the SCIAC Coaching Staff of the Year for three years in a row (2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18). She helped Chapman to its first SCIAC Tournament title in 2017-18 and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Prior to joining the Panthers, she served three seasons as a coach at Torrey Pines High School in San Diego. As a prep athlete, she was a swimmer and forward on the girls' basketball team at Mark Keppel High School. She went on to swim at UC San Diego from 1999-2003 where she was named NCAA Swimmer of the Year as a freshman, leading the Tritons with top-five finishes in three events. She won multiple NCAA championships in four years and was voted into UCSD's Hall of Fame in 2016. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree in mathematics from UCSD.
She and her husband John were married in 2012 and currently reside in Aliso Viejo.
