  • Chapman athletes recognized on SCIAC All-Academic teams

    Chapman University student-athletes were well-represented during the 2013-14 academic year as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference named its All-Academic teams by sport. Leading the way for the Panthers was women’s soccer, which garnered a conference-best 14 honorees.
  • Chapman Athletics announces its Senior Awards recipients

    Chapman University celebrated another banner year in athletics with its annual Jog-a-thon and Sports Appreciation Day at Wilson Field on Friday afternoon. Besides celebrating the school’s first-ever SCIAC championship (women’s basketball) and another SCIAC Tournament title (men’s basketball), the Panthers recognized four seniors with the Department of Athletics annual awards.
  • More recognition for Takaoka who earns D3Hoops All-Region

    Chapman University senior Kimi Takaoka has been named to the D3Hoops.com women’s basketball All-West Region team for the 2013-14 season. The shooting guard earned All-Region honors for the second straight year from D3Hoops and becomes the first Panther named to the first team since Melody Bongiorno ’04 in 2003-04.
  • Men's, women's NCAA Tournament life short-lived

    A pair of losses for the Chapman University men’s and women’s basketball teams ended their seasons in the first rounds of their respective NCAA Division III Tournaments on Friday night. The Panther men fell 85-70 to host and No. 16-ranked University of Texas-Dallas in the central time zone preceding a 106-51 loss by the women to host and No. 7-ranked Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash. in the nation’s last game of the night.
  • Trio of Panthers earn All-SCIAC honors

    The SCIAC co-champion Chapman University women’s basketball team was well-represented when the All-SCIAC teams were announced Wednesday. Senior G Kimi Takaoka was named Athlete of the Year, while junior PG Andrea Villanueva and sophomore F Sandra Gao garnered Second Team honors.

    Chapman University women’s basketball player Kimi Takaoka has been named as one of 10 female finalists for the prestigious Jostens Trophy, awarded annually to the most outstanding men’s and women’s NCAA Division III basketball player who excels on the floor, in the classroom and in the community.
  • Women earn date with No. 1 Whitman in NCAA Tourney

    Following the disappointment of Saturday night’s loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament final, the Chapman University women’s basketball team found new life on Monday morning. The Panthers were awarded a Pool ‘C’ (at-large) berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament and will travel to Walla Walla, Wash. to face No. 1-ranked Whitman College in the first round to be played on Friday, game time to be determined.
  • Claremont women defeat Chapman to win SCIAC Tournament

    The Chapman University women’s basketball team fell 78-60 to visiting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in the 2014 SCIAC Postseason Tournament championship game at the Harold Hutton Sports Center on Saturday night. The game marked the Panthers’ second straight loss in the tournament final after losing to Cal Lutheran in 2013.

    The Chapman University women’s basketball team held of a second-half surge from Cal Lutheran University, to defeat the visiting Regals 72-68 and advance to the SCIAC Postseason Tournament championship game for the second year in a row.

    Lengthy winning streaks have catapulted the Chapman University men’s and women’s basketball teams into the SCIAC Postseason Tournament, marking the first time both programs have reached the tourney in the school’s second year as a member of the conference.
  • Women's basketball earns share of Chapman's first SCIAC title

    With a win over host University of La Verne, the Chapman University women’s basketball team earned a share of the SCIAC regular season championship, the Panthers’ first in any sport in school history. Chapman defeated the Leopards 59-41 on the road to close out the regular season and by virtue of a tiebreaker, the Panthers captured the No. 1 seed in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament which begins on Thursday.
  • Fittingly, Takaoka leads the way on "Senior Night"

    The Chapman University women’s basketball team won its seventh straight game and sent senior G Kimi Takaoka out with an 84-55 victory over Caltech on “Senior Night” Thursday at the Hutton Center, clinching home court advantage for the opening round of the SCIAC playoffs.
  • Takaoka earns Academic All-America first team honors

    One of the most prolific point scorers in Panther history is now one of the most prolific student-athletes ever at Chapman University. Senior guard Kimi Takaoka has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America Division III basketball first team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday.
  • Takaoka leads second half rally past Pomona-Pitzer

    Moving one step closer to securing the top spot in the SCIAC conference, the Chapman University women’s basketball team defeated Pomona-Pitzer, 73-64 on Saturday night at the Hutton Sports Center. The Panthers’ victory extends their win streak to six games with just two games remaining in the regular season.
  • Takaoka earns third straight Capital One Academic All-District honors

    For the third straight season, Chapman University women’s basketball player Kimi Takaoka has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII Women’s Basketball team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The senior guard becomes the first Panther women’s basketball player in a decade to receive the honor in three consecutive seasons and the first Chapman athlete in seven years to accomplish the feat.
  • Panthers hold off CMS rally to earn share of first place

    With wins in five of its last six contests, the Chapman University women’s basketball team has claimed a share of the top spot in the SCIAC conference heading into the final month of play. The achievement did not come easy, however, as the Panthers held off a late rally by Claremont-M-S on Thursday to earn a 73-69 win at the Hutton Sports Center.
  • Last-minute rally gives Panther women win over Oxy

    The Chapman University women’s basketball team out-scored visiting Occidental College 9-0 in the final 56 seconds to turn a four-point deficit into a 66-61 win in a SCIAC matchup at the Hutton Sports Center on Saturday night. The Panthers rally kept them in a three-way tie for first place in the conference standings as each of the conference’s top teams won on Saturday night.
  • Streaky Panthers earn share of first place with win over La Verne

    The Chapman University women’s basketball team held off a second half comeback from the University of La Verne at the Hutton Sports Center on Thursday night, defeating the Leopards by a score of 78-68. The Panthers’ sixth win in their last seven contests against La Verne moves them in to a three-way tie for first place in the SCIAC standings.
  • Once again, Takaoka earns SCIAC Female Athlete of the Week

    For the third time in her career, and second time this season, Chapman University women’s basketball player Kimi Takaoka has been named SCIAC Female Athlete of the Week for the period of Jan. 6-12. Takaoka joins Chapman men’s basketball player Taylor Hamasaki and Val Geiger of the volleyball team as the only Panthers to win the award multiple times this year.
  • Panthers' win streak snapped in 65-55 loss to Biola

    In its final non-conference game of the season, the Chapman University women’s basketball team lost to Biola University, 65-55 at the Hutton Sports Center on Tuesday night. The Panthers’ sixth straight loss to the Eagles also snaps their season-best four-game win streak.
  • Takaoka, Hamasaki earn SCIAC Players of the Week

    Chapman University swept this week's SCIAC Player of the Week awards as senior women's basketball player Kimi Takaoka and junior men's basketball player Taylor Hamasaki have been named Male and Female Players of the Week by the conference for the two-week holiday period from Dec. 16-30.

    The Chapman University women’s basketball team split a pair of games at the Hoop N Surf Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii this week, defeating West Region opponent Pacific University (Ore.) 56-42 on Wednesday afternoon before falling to NAIA’s No. 5-ranked Georgetown College 57-56 on Friday.
  • Panthers survive second-half blunders, defeat Poets 66-62

    The Chapman University women’s basketball team let a comfortable first-half lead slip away, but held on in the final minutes to defeat the Whittier Poets, 66-62 at the Hutton Sports Center on Saturday. The Panthers survived 19 second half turnovers, watching their 20-point lead dwindle before coming up with two key turnovers of their own in the final seconds to earn their second straight win.
  • Panther trio dominates in 81-72 win over Cal Lu

    After suffering a tough loss in their SCIAC opener to Redlands, the Chapman University women’s basketball team bounced back to defeat Cal Lutheran, 81-72 at the Hutton Sports Center on Saturday night. Senior G Kimi Takaoka, junior G Andrea Villanueva and sophomore F Sandra Gao accounted for 59 of the Panthers’ 81 points en route to the team’s first conference win of the season.
  • Takaoka hits 1,000, but No. 24 Bruins spoil Chapman's home debut

    The Chapman University women’s basketball team made its home debut on Saturday and nearly upset No. 24-ranked George Fox University, falling 65-62 to the visiting Bruins at the Hutton Sports Center. Panthers’ senior G Kimi Takaoka scored a game-high 26 points and became just the 10th player in school history to eclipse the 1,000 point plateau for her career.
  • Women's basketball set to open season Friday at Tip-Off Classic

    A season ago, the Chapman University women’s basketball team surprised its foes by advancing to the conference tournament finals in its inaugural season in the SCIAC. The Panthers will look to build on that success as they open the 2013-14 season at the Lee Fulmer Tip-Off Classic at the University of Redlands on Friday and Saturday.
