All-WWPA goalie Casey Regher made 21 saves for Whittier, but none was bigger than his 21st, which preserved the Poets' one-goal lead in the final seconds. Whittier pulled off the first upset of the WWPA championship tournament a 10-9 win over No. 2-seed Air Force sending the Falcons into the loser's bracket with a fourth-quarter rally. The Poets overcame a two-goal deficit in the final eight minutes by out-scoring Air Force 4-1 in the quarter. Three of those goals came from senior utility player Alex Perry including a pair of go-ahead goals in the final 1:31 of the game, putting the Poets up 9-8 and 10-9. Perry finished with five goals in the game. Air Force led almost the entire game, but never by more than two goals. Senior utility Alex Churnside scored back-to-back goals in the third quarter to give the Falcons an 8-6 lead heading into the fourth. Regher's 21 saves marks the sixth time this season he has made 20 blocks in a game this season. |

U.C. San Diego's Lance Curtiss and Sean Roberts each scored in the first overtime period as the No. 3-seeded Tritons staved off a Redlands upset attempt with a 14-13 victory. UCSD advances to the WWPA semifinals where it will face Whittier on Saturday. Redlands forced overtime by rallying from a 12-9 deficit in the final 4:40 in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs scored three unanswered goals, including the game-tying goal with just four seconds left in regulation from senior driver Brent Dotters. The Bulldogs led 6-3 midway through the second quarter, but UCSD went on a 4-1 run to knot the game at 7 heading into halftime. The Tritons made it a 9-3 run over a 15 minute span to build their biggest lead of the day 12-9 in the fourth before Redlands rallied. Redlands senior Ryan Floerisch led all scorers with four goals. |

Top-seeded Loyola Marymount successfully began its defense of back-to-back WWPA championships with a convincing 13-3 victory over tournament host Chapman. The nation's fifth-ranked Lions jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter and scored the game's first 12 goals en route to a 10-goal decision. LMU advances to the tournament semifinals on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Juniors Daniel Smith and Tibor Forai paced the Lions offensively with three goals apiece, including two each in the first quarter. WWPA Player of the Year Andy Stevens made seven saves in goal for LMU before being pulled before the start of the fourth quarter. National scoring leader Alex Mule was limited to just one goal on 10 shot attempts for Chapman. All three Panthers goals were scored in the fourth quarter. |

Santa Clara broke open a tied game after the half with four consecutive goals, turning a 4-4 game into an 8-4 lead. The Broncos held on to win 8-6 and advance to the tournament semifinals on Saturday where they will face top-seeded Loyola Marymount at 1:30 p.m. Senior utility player Liam Farrell scored all three of his goals in succession the third quarter to help Santa Clara pull away. Nicholas Poggetti also added his third goal of the game in the period for the Broncos. Trailing 8-4, U.C. Davis rallied for two quick goals in the final 46 seconds of the game. The Aggies' Cory Lyle scored both goals and led the team with three in the game. Santa Clara goalie Alexander Coffin made nine saves in the victory. |
