Season-opening split for Panthers in Day 1 of Chapman Tourney
Just as the day saw some sunshine and a lot of rain, the Chapman University womens water polo team had some success but also had some tough times as they split two games on Saturday at the Allred Aquatics Center in the first day of the Chapman University Tournament. [more] Preseason poll has women's water polo ranked No. 6 With a strong group of returning players including All-American goalie Celia Huling, the Chapman University womens water polo team has been ranked No. 6 in the latest NCAA Division III preseason poll conducted by the Collegiate Water Polo Association. [more] Chapman women rank No. 1 in team GPA The Chapman University womens water polo team has claimed top-rank among all NCAA Divisions I, II, III and NAIA with a 3.42 team grade-point average for the 2008-09 academic year. The rankings, released by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC), have the Panthers No. 1 in the nation ahead of Washington & Jefferson College (Pa.) with 3.36, Brown University (R.I.) with 3.35 and, locally, the University of Redlands with 3.21. Womens water polo player Daniella Beintema and All-America mens tennis player Clifford Yook were each named to the at-large team for their athletic and academic achievements. [more] Season comes to an end with 11th place finish at WWPAs Losses to Cal State East Bay and Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday brought the Chapman University womens water polo season to a close at the Western Water Polo Association championships in Santa Clara.
