In 2008, Cahill became the first coach in Chapman volleyball history to win 300 matches in her career. The Panthers have experienced a great deal of success in recent years, having reached the NCAA tournament in 2004 and 2005 and posting its best overall record in 12 years (17-10) in 2006. Mary is both the winningest and longest-tenured coach in Chapman volleyball history, finishing .500 or better in 16 of her 20 seasons. The Panthers have made seven NCAA tournament appearances. Cahill is also in her second year serving as Senior Women's Administrator at Chapman.
She has had 25 Division III All-West Region athletes play for her in the past 10 years, three All-Americans and five Academic All-District VIII selections. Despite many great years at Chapman, she has reached an unprecedented level of success in the past eight years, producing consistently winning teams. Her eight winning seasons in the last nine years is the most successful run she's had in her coaching career. In fact, the Panthers have won 15 or more matches now in five consecutive seasons.
A native of Orange, Mary attended Orange High School and played
two seasons at Chapman, where she was named Academic All-America in
1985. She has a bachelor's degree in Movement/Exercise Science from
Chapman, and a master's in education from Azusa Pacific.
John returns for his 17th season as an assistant to his sister,
Mary. During John's tenure on the coaching staff, the Panthers have
appeared in the NCAA playoffs five times. He is currently the boys'
volleyball head coach at El Modena High. A native of Orange, John
attended Orange High. He received his bachelor's degree in
kinesiology and health promotions from Cal State Fullerton. He
resides in Orange with his wife Valerie.
