  • Srivastava headlines SCIAC awards as Newcomer of the Year

    Three Chapman University women’s volleyball players earned All-SCIAC honors earlier this morning. The selections were headlined by freshman Sophie Srivastava, who earned SCIAC Newcomer of the Year and became the first women’s volleyball athlete to win a major SCIAC award since entering the conference in 2012.

    The Chapman University women’s volleyball team took No. 6 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to five sets earlier this evening. The Panthers (19-7, 10-6 SCIAC) dropped their final home match of the regular season 24-26, 17-25, 25-18, 25-16, 9-15 to the visiting Athenas (24-3, 15-1 SCIAC).

    The Chapman University women’s volleyball team suffered a five-set loss to visiting Cal Lutheran on Tuesday. The Panthers (19-5, 10-4 SCIAC) remain in second place despite the loss with two matches left to play.

    Freshman Sophie Srivastava was awarded her third SCIAC Athlete of the Week honor after helping lead Chapman to two crucial wins. The Panthers head into the final week of the season in second place in a tight race for the four spots in the SCIAC Tournament.

    A trio of freshmen led the Chapman University women’s volleyball team to a 25-18, 25-17, 25-18 sweep of visiting Whittier. The Panthers’ three freshmen combined for 20 kills and the Panthers hit .347 as a team in the crucial sweep.

    ORANGE, Calif. - The Chapman University women’s volleyball team swept the visiting Caltech Beavers 25-18, 25-19, 25-10 earlier this evening. The Panthers (16-4, 7-3 SCIAC) were led by freshman Sophie Srivastava on both sides of the ball.

    Freshmen Sophie Srivastava and Jessi Lumsden swept the SCIAC volleyball Athlete of the Week awards after leading Chapman to a 3-0 week. Srivastava earned her second honor as the Specialist of the Week while Lumsden was honored as the Offensive Athlete of the Week.

    A new win streak continued to build as the Chapman University women’s volleyball team defeated visiting La Verne 25-22, 25-21, 17-25, 25-15 for its fourth consecutive win. Freshman Sophie Srivastava turned in yet another triple-double – her sixth of the season.

    The Chapman University volleyball team became the first SCIAC team to defeat Pomona-Pitzer by a score of 25-22, 25-12, 24-26, 25-22. The Panthers improved to 13-2 on the season and 4-1 in SCIAC play.

    ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women’s volleyball team earned its ninth sweep of the season with a commanding 25-10, 25-15, 25-22 win over the visiting UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs (4-12). Freshman Jessi Lumsden led the Panthers (12-2) with 10 kills on a whopping .588 hitting percentage.

    The winning streak extended to nine matches as the Chapman University volleyball team swept through visiting Occidental on Tuesday. Freshman Jessi Lumsden led the way with 15 kills for the Panthers (11-1, 3-0 SCIAC) in the 25-21, 25-16, 25-13 victory.

    Another strong defensive effort led the Chapman University volleyball team to a 25-21, 25-16, 22-25, 25-19 win over Redlands to open SCIAC play. The Panthers (9-1, 1-0 SCIAC) won their seventh match in row to continue its hot start to the season.

  • Experienced roster leads volleyball team into 2018 season

    Plenty of experience will lead the Chapman University volleyball team into the 2018 season. Chapman’s roster features six seniors and 11 returners this season – all of which helped the Panthers to a SCIAC Tournament berth in 2017.
