ORANGE, Calif. – Six student-athletes and the Chapman university women's tennis team garnered academic recognition from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The six Panthers to earn individual recognition were split evenly among the men's and women's tennis teams.
For the third year in a row, the women's tennis team earned All-Academic status with a combined 3.22 team GPA for the 2016-17 academic year. The ITA required a 3.2 team GPA to earn the team All-Academic distinction while individuals had to maintain a 3.5 GPA or better to be named Scholar-Athletes.
All-SCIAC selection Madeline Saunders led the women's team on the court and was named a Scholar-Athlete to end her college career. Sophomore Jaye Orikasa and freshman Nicole Fouts also earned the honor from the ITA. Senior Josh Sarsfield led a trio of student-athletes from the men's team that also included sophomore Brock DeHaven and freshman Darrus Lee.
In total, the ITA honored over 700 teams and nearly 4,000 individual student-athletes from every level of college tennis for their respective academic achievements.
