ORANGE, Calif. – Four different players found the back of the net as the Chapman University women's soccer team defeated La Verne 4-1 on Saturday. The Panthers (5-5, 2-3 SCIAC) scored all four goals after falling behind 1-0.

With another big night on the attacking end, the Panthers have scored nine goals in their last two matches. Freshman Cate Combi scored her first career goal and sophomore Emmie Farber scored her third in the last two matches.

La Verne (0-6-2, 0-5-1 SCIAC) struck first when Mia Trugerro gathered a deflection from a corner kick and fired a shot into the back of the net in the 22nd minute. The shot was just one of six for the Leopards in the match and the only one that found its way on frame.

After surrendering the early goal, the Panthers took control of the match. Senior Lindsay Erl put Chapman on the scoreboard when her shot was immediately deflected by her defender and floated up and over the keeper for her first goal of the season in the 42nd minute.

Just two minutes later, Farber dribbled around a defender and took advantage of a one-on-one opportunity with the keeper. She fired a shot just under the crossbar to put Chapman up 2-1 at halftime.

The Panthers continued to apply pressure with a 9-1 shot advantage in the second half. They outshot the Leopards 21-6 in the match. In the 81st minute, the Panthers finally struck again. Sophomore Allison Merrill scored for the secon match in a row when she knocked down a clearance attempt and struck it into the net for a 3-1 lead.

Combi's first career goal came in the 87th minute. With the Panthers still dominating the run of play, Erl passed back to Combi, who fired a shot from nearly 30 yards out into the upper right corner.

Despite allowing four goals, Hanien Samara made nine saves to keep her team in the match for 80 minutes. Chapman had 10 corner kicks while surrendering just one to La Verne.

Chapman had just four goals coming into the week but have raised that total to 13 goals with back-to-back dominating wins. Chapman heads to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday and return home on Oct. 3 to take on Cal Lutheran at 4 p.m.
