ORANGE, Calif. – Three members of the Chapman University baseball team earned American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-Region honors this week. Senior Gavin Blodgett and junior Tyler Peck each earned spots on the Second Team, while junior Matt Mogollon was selected to the Third Team.
This is Blodgett's second consecutive ABCA All-West Region selection after earning a spot on the Third Team as both a catcher and third baseman in the 2017 season. The award comes after his third consecutive All-SCIAC selection earlier this season. The veteran played in every game in his senior campaign, tallying a team-high 63 hits, 47 RBIs, 44 runs score and seven home runs.
Blodgett's career-high 47 RBIs also ranked third in the conference. The Fullerton native posted a .373 batting average and two more career-highs with a .471 on-base percentage and a .586 slugging percentage. He was also stellar at third base, posting a .968 fielding percentage with 127 total putouts and 82 assists. The senior helped Chapman lead the nation with 52 double plays this season.
Both Peck and Mogollon earned their first career All-Region selections earlier this week from D3baseball.com. Peck posted a career-best record of 7-2 this season with two complete games. He led the Panthers and ranked second in the SCIAC with a career-low 2.63 ERA. The right-hander also led the conference and the squad with a career-best 98 strikeouts.
Mogollon ranked second on the Panthers and third in the conference with a career-low 2.67 ERA. He tied for second in the conference with eight wins after posting a career-best record of 8-4 and four complete games. In his 14 appearances this year, the All-SCIAC First Team member ranked third in the conference with 89 strikeouts.
