Coach Wood had a dream season in his debut as men's lacrosse
head coach at Chapman. He guided the Panthers to the SLC
championship and MCLA Final Four in Dallas, Texas where Chapman was
defeated by Michigan in the national championship game. A year
later, the Panthers repeated as SLC champions and again placed
second at the MCLA national championships, falling short again to
Michigan.
Wood came to Chapman from Pomona-Pitzer Colleges where he served
as the head women's lacrosse coach in 2007. In the first year of
varsity women's lacrosse at Pomona the Sagehens finished 10-2. He
got his start coaching lacrosse at Ithaca College (N.Y.), where he
spent four seasons atop the women's program and two in charge of
the men. Wood's women's teams reached the NCAA tournament three
times. From 2005-06, he guided the men to two Empire 8
championships.
Wood's coaching background also includes an extensive football
resume. He currently serves as the defensive line coach at Chapman
and was the defensive coordinator at Pomona-Pitzer in 2006. Prior
to that he served as a defensive assistant and special teams
coordinator at Ithaca, helping the Bombers to the NCAA
quarterfinals in 2001 and 2003.
Wood played four seasons of football and one year of lacrosse at
Ohio State and went to four bowl games as a Buckeye, including the
Rose Bowl in 1985 as the Big Ten champions.
